Transcript: Each day, a large tree can move up to 100 gallons of water from the ground to the air. That's enough for at least 2 baths. Why are pollinators important? POLLINATORS Preforms phtosynthesis because of green in chlorophyll. Cell Wall Leaves: Gives off oxygen, takes in carbon dioxide. (This process is also known as photosynthesis. Example of plant parts: Contains cellulose to help give the plant it's shape. This flower is part of the Limiaceae family, has a Perennial life cycle, tolerates droughty soil and requires full sun and part shade Lemon Balm: Lantana camara The butterfly lands on a flower and the sticky pollen hiches a ride on the butterfly going from one flower to the next. Roots: soaks up nutrients, anchors plant in ground. Butterfly Lantana: Nepta x faassenii Pollinators are important because they help plants produce fruit and seeds by bringing pollen or seeds from flower to flower. Squirrel Lantana flower Stem: Celery Lemon Balm flower Name of pollinator This flower is part of the Lamiaceae family, has a Perrenial life cycle, needs well-drained soil and requires full sun, part shade. #2 fact from "The Secret Life of Plants" Plant parts and their functions Root: Beet This flower is part of the Verbenaceae family, has a Annual life cycle, requires well-drained soil, and needs full sun. What it pollinates They bury acorns in the ground for the inter and en they forget where they put them, it grows into an oak tree. Chloroplast Plant Presentation Melissa officinalis Stem: Gives plant its skeleton, holds fruits and vegetables. Flower: Cauliflower Some plants are explosive. They shoot their seeds out of thier pods. The Witch hazel can shoot it's seeds 30 to 40 feet. Flower: Stores extra nutrients, creates new plats with pollen. #1 fact from "The Secret Life of Plants" Catmint flower Catmint: Leaves: Artichoke
