Transcript: Requirements: The announcement sets forth five criteria to receive deferred action: 1. Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012; 2. Came to the United States before reaching your 16th birthday; 3. Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time; 4. Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making your request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS; UC System SAFE was founded on September 15th, 2008 by a group of AB540 students at Riverside City College. There are three laws that make education more accessible and affordable to all AB540 students, as well as undocumented students. Signed into law July 25, 2011, authorizes AB540 students to apply for privately funded scholarships given out by a California public college/university. Effective January 1, 2012 1. Attend a California High School for three years and 2. Graduated from a California High School or attained the equivalent of a high school diploma (GED or CA High school Proficiency Exam) and 3. Be currently enrolled at an accredited institution of public higher education and 4. Sign a statement (Affidavit) with the college or university and 5. Not hold a valid non-immigrant visa such as visas F, J, H, and L. What are the Requirements? Signed into law October 12, 2001 authorizes any students, including undocumented students, who meet the requirements to pay in-state tuition at California's public colleges and universities. Effective January 1, 2013 "the burden of having a legal status had dictated my life path—how my day was supposed to look like, where I was able to live, what kind of job I could get, how many ounces of air I could breathe, and all the negotiations and exploitation I had to endure…" Most colleges and universities have their own form of the AB540 affidavit which serves two purposes. 1) Verify that the student meets the educational requirements. 2) Certify the intent to establish legal residency. Students must provide information on all high schools attended and submit a high school transcript as required by the college or university. What are the requirements? What is it? Requirements: 1.Be eligible for AB 540 2. G.P.A. and income requirements as decided by the California Student Aid Commission 3. The CA Dream Network, CHIRLA, among other organizations are working closely with the CA Student Aid Commission to create a secure, efficient, and reliable statewide financial aid application, similar to FAFSA, but for AB 540 students. We expect to have it ready by the end of next year. What are the requirements? “Being undocumented doesn’t define who you are. By Coming Out we take back our right of speech that for years others have been trying to control and oppress. Being undocumented is something that has given us strength and patience throughout the years. Nobody, not even the Senate, can stop us. We’re here and we’re not leaving, be proud and be loud!” Currently, there are 11 states offering in-state tuition to undocumented students and these are California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. Provide scholarships to AB540 students each semester. Inform AB540 students about the rights and opportunities they have to pursue higher education. Participate actively in the Immigration Reform. Build allies and a network within the community.
