Transcript: To be an effective partner Hawai'i CC needs to be able to support industries as they evolve and emerge. Current Status: We use Manono, UH Hilo, and Palamanui. Manono in need of redevelopment . It was built in 1956; 33% of buildings are portables; nearly 50% are 50+ years old. Upgrades address programmatic, building systems, health and safety, and code compliance needs. Expand program offerings at Palamanui. Explore satellite facilities North and South of HI. Recently revised Developmental Education. Remove cost as a barrier to entry (Hawai'i Promise) Address indirect costs through scholarships. Identify needs & connect students to services. Expand the ‘Elama Project. Expand the Early College Program. Poverty Informed Kauhale. Vibrant HI initiative Closing the Achievement Gap Workforce Development How can you help? Incompletion hurts the student and the Hawai'i Island community. To Fulfill the Promise we need to: Keep the Promise by Closing the Achievement Gap Advance the Promise with Workforce Development Build the Promise of Island-wide Service with 21st Century Facilities What is the promise? An educated and skilled workforce for the State of Hawai'i. The term “waihona” is a place for laying things for safekeeping in a hale. In modern times “waihona” is updated to mean “funds” and “treasury." WAIHONA
