MillionTreesNYC is a project to plant one million trees around the city to increase the city's urban forest. We helped remove invasive plants and vegetation that was hindering the growth of baby trees and put in a new layer of mulch for the tree to grow with better soil, hopefully growing stronger and bigger. Service We hosted a bra decorating event for Breast Cancer Awareness and also participated and helped cheer people on during the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk We were able to fully appreciate the satisfaction of philanthropy and the importance of having the capability and motivation to do so We’ve learned that we can make a difference no matter how small the scale of our efforts, each event was a step closer to achieving higher goals and a learning experience Community Service with New Member Class Asian American Awareness Philanthropy Dim Sum For our cultural awareness event, we hosted an evening filled with dim sum followed by the lighting of sky laterns. On every sky latern, sisters were asked to make a wish, and by setting the sky lantern afloat, hopefully their wishes will come true. DIY Bra Being Americans now should not change where we came from. We should embrace our ancestors and all they did for us. By gathering sisters whenever they can, sisters use their skills and go out to try their best to contribute their time and effort in anyway to keep the community a better place for everyone to live in. Events range from participating in walks, for example the Avon Breast Cancer walk, or raising money for some cause, or cleaning up the streets and strive to be environmentally friendly and kind to the planet that gives us life. BCA Walk During the process, we were given the opportunity each week to have five hours of undisturbed study. Though at first I had thought it was needless, but over the weeks I looked forward to each study hour session Sisters gave me motivation and advice during the process, we not only wanted to achieve and do our best for ourselves but also for those who’ve supported us Scholarship is important because it is something that can tie us all together and it is a common goal we all share I’ve also learned that it is completely possible to balance both school and outside activities as long as one never gives up Though we may sometimes fail, it is in scholarship that we learn from our mistakes and try again Scholarship White Coat Ceremony Sky Lanterns Leadership Our Journey Cultural Awareness Night Chi-Po's (n) - the action of leading a group of people or an organization Every event hosted by New Member Class was a form of leadership Skills needed: social, speaking, organization, confidence Why is it necessary?
