Transcript: Presented by PERSON for COMPANY Farewell to 7th Grade Introduction Introduction The poster I have with me, while also saying ‘Thank You’ for a great year, reviews some of the many concepts we learned in math over the year. Memories were made, whether they were good or bad, as we expanded our mathematical intelligence. This summarizes a few of the main units from this year. 'T' and 'H' 'T,H' The ‘T’ on my poster represents connecting coordinates on a graph to make a shape, like the well-known Mug Wump. Mug Wump and his friends are perhaps the class favourite of the math lessons this year. It was enjoyable figuring out if the ‘Wump’ was an imposter or not, and the one time we were making hats. The ‘H’ illustrates, for me, one of the most interesting units: linear equations. It was fascinating learning all the restrictions and rules in equations. Graphs and lines were a large part of almost all the units. 'A', 'N', and 'K' 'A,N,K' ‘A’ is for angles, or 2D geometry. Shapes, angles, and lines we’ve learned in previous grades, but this year was more advanced. It also popped up in later units. ‘N’ is a similar version of another N, covering resizing and scale factor. ‘K’ depicts the uncomplicated probability and rates unit, learning about chances for doing anything, whether you’ll pick an orange marble or how likely something will happen. All three are lessons that will be useful in later years. 'Y', 'O', and 'U' 'Y,O,U' ‘Y’ is close to 'K', but it is the other part of the unit “Comparing and Scaling”: percents. How much of what is it? Percents are a helpful part in life and business. ‘O’ is a circle, of which I measured the diameter, radius, and circumference to illustrate the time this class spent with circle measurements. ‘U’ is for the last, but not least, statistics and data unit. I took a line plot and calculated the mode, mean, median, and range of the data. That was likely the most time-consuming unit, in the way calculating and graphing used up a lot of class time. One of the first lessons I had with the 7th grade was copying a paper sculpture which we could not touch. Bennett and I figured the sculpture out first, but that’s irrelevant. During that lesson, nobody picked on either of us, even though we were a year younger and could’ve been an easy target. We were accepted as part of the group. I have to thank you for that, because it made the year much more enjoyable. I am looking forward to being an actual seventh grader next year. The 2017-2018 school year had its ups and downs, for the entire United States and for us. With all the threats to schools across the country, any other school might have felt unsafe and dangerous. However, even through those confusing times, I can say that I didn’t feel vulnerable or in danger from anyone, especially my own peers. A great teacher, great friends, and a excellent school.
