Transcript: To be included as a world heritage site, the site must be considered to be of vast importance to society. The site also must follow the UNESCO guidelines and also must follow one of the ten selections of the criteria put forward by the organisation. The Notre Dame Cathedral follows most of the guidelines including the first and most important one; to represent a masterpiece of human creative genius. The purpose of the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is to be a sort of “watchdog” of the planet. They also specialize in world heritage protection. The word treaty is defined as “A formally concluded and ratified agreement between countries.” A treaty is an express agreement under international law entered into by actors in international law, namely sovereign states and international organizations. A treaty may also be known as an (international) agreement, protocol, covenant, convention or exchange of letters, among other terms. Regardless of terminology, all of these forms of agreements are, under international law, equally considered treaties and the rules are the same. The buildings construction started all the way back 1163 and was completed in 1345. This image does not demonstrate well a topographic map because the area of Paris is flat. It fulfills the first requirement the strongest by representing the human genius. This is why it is considered a world heritage site. The occupation responsible of making sure that the Notre Dame Cathedral stays well looked after is also the UNESCO. Their job is to represent all the sites and make sure that they stay preserved for future generations to enjoy. This is why this organisation is so important.
