Environmental Quality is defined as a set of properties and characteristics of the environment and their impact on human beings and other organisms. It is a measure of the condition of an environment relative to the requirements of one or more species and or to any human need or purpose What is Environment Quality? Environment Quality? Includes the natural environment as well as the built environment, such as air and water purity or pollution, noise and the potential effects which such characteristics may have on physical and mental health EXAMPLE Safe air, land, and water are fundamental to healthy environment quality. An environment free of hazards, such as noise pollution, secondhand smoke, carbon monoxide, allergens, lead, and toxic chemicals, helps prevent disease and other health problems. The Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government for environmental protection. They have created numerous laws and regulations such as Clean Air Act- Federal law that regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources and protects public health and public welfare and to regulate emissions of hazardous air pollutants. Clean Water Act- establishes the basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into the waters of the United States and regulating quality standards for surface waters Toxic Substances Control Act-provides EPA with authority to require reporting, record-keeping and testing requirements, and restrictions relating to chemical substances and/or mixtures, addresses the production, importation, use, and disposal of specific chemicals Noise Control Act- national policy to promote an environment for all Americans free from noise that jeopardizes their health and welfare. Laws & Policies Inadequately controlled noise presents a growing danger to the health and welfare of the Nation's population, particularly in urban areas. The major sources of noise include transportation vehicles and equipment, machinery, appliances, and other products in commerce. The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments added a new title IV, relating to acid deposition control, without repealing the existing title IV, relating to noise pollution. Recommendations Enforce the EQ laws and policies with stricter fines and jail time Dumping hazardous waste into rivers, streams, oceans, or otherwise secluded areas rather than paying to have it taken to a chemical treatment plant should be punishable by up to 5-7 years in jail Put more garbage and recycle cans to avoid people littering Provide incentives to take public transportation or bikes instead of cars Factories cannot be built near communities and residential homes Recommendations Please standup and if you agree with the statement move to the RIGHT if you disagree move to the LEFT. If you are in the middle, stand in the middle. I may call on you to explain your answer Game Time: BODY BAROMETER Poor EQ can have adverse effects on your health It destroys the environment and ultimately the world's ecosystem and ozone Most do not take EQ harm seriously and no effective laws address those who break them The Problem The Problem Insert your own text here.
