MRU Wellness Services COMMUNITY PARTNER Located in Mount Royal University Recreation 4825 Mt Royal Gate SW Room U16, Calgary, AB T3E 6K6 Services Provided OUR COMMUNITY PARTNER - Mental Health - Medical services - MRU Injury and Prevention Clinic - Workshops - Campus Community Wellness - Other resources such as Breathing room STRENGTHS - Focused on Social Media - MRU Wellness Services located on MyMRU under the campus connections tab - Google website has been set up to consolidate - Trying to build relationships with instructors and faculty - Collaboration with SAMRU - Peer student educator volunteer program - collaboration with the recreation centre at MRU Strengths OUR PURPOSE Our Purpose TARGET POPULATION MRU students who are not accessing Student Wellness Services GOAL Goal: To understand the barriers MRU students experience with virtual Wellness Services and make recommendations that will strengthen the students’ connection to this service. Students Survey (60) LITERATURE REVIEW Literature Review We reviewed the literature in Google Scholar, MRU library, PubMed and Medline databases and chose 12 scholarly articles within the last 10 years related to our topic. SURVEYS & QUESTIONNAIRES ANALYSIS ANALYSIS COMMUNITY DIAGNOSIS COMMUNITY DIAGNOSIS MRU students are experiencing barriers to wellness services during the pandemic related to: Unaware of the services Distance and commute Increased workload Technology burnout Wait-listed Lack of motivation resulting in Eye strain Anxiety Isolation Overwhelmed and burnout because of Not having a safe place Fear of COVID Services not provided in the way students prefer RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendations Short term: 1)Create a blackboard announcement about wellness services for instructors 2)Re-formatting course syllabus- where wellness service information is underneath assignment due dates/reading break 3)Instructors offering bonus marks for attending Wellness Programs 4)Having a separate, clearly labeled section on MyMRU or Blackboard just for MRU student wellness services Long term 1)Create a multimedia contest for students to compete for a wellness campaign on MRUs Instagram and Facebook. 2)Faculty wellness “super hero” to learn and spread information about Student Wellness Services among other professors and instructors 3) Create/buy an app that support students 24/7 especially regarding mental health 4) Create clear signage for Wellness Services or consult a way-finding expert LOGIC MODEL Strengths & Limitations of this project STRENGTHS & LIMITATIONS Strengths: - Teamwork and communication - The theoretical and clinical knowledge - Community partner - Community key informants Limitations: - Due to the short 6 week spring semester, we were unable to implement or evaluate our recommendations - Delayed survey and email response - Delayed response from other universities REFERENCES References Field, J., Elbert, D., & Moser, S.
