Transcript: Soviet Union: The GULAG Comparison: They systematically killed a group of people out of fear. They believed that getting rid of the group would help their country. Contrast: 18 - 50 year old males. People killed were volunteer forces, communists, looters, those possessing weapons, and people whom were on the anti-Japanese list. They did not have work camps like the Holocaust. The Chinese estimated that 40,000 - 50,000 people were killed compared to the 5 - 6 million people killed in the Holocaust. Changi Beach Purpose: Japan was growing suspicious of China because of growing tensions. Japan wanted to prevent interference of their occupation in Singapore The question we are reflecting on is: "Why is the Holocaust within Nazi Germany the primary focus when there were other, more extensive genocides committed by other countries during World War 2, such as the Soviet Union and Japan?" Bibliography Differences: The GULAG was not created to kill a specific group of people, but rather to use them as a source of labor for the Soviet Union. Prisoners were often released. However they were often exiled from their homes. We researched these three events: Germany: Dachau: (March 1933 - 1945) Soviet Union: The GULAG: (1917 - 1980's) Japan: Sook Ching: (February 21 - March 4, 1942) Similarities: The camps were used for hard labor. Prisoners were considered expendable. Often the innocent were imprisoned through no fault of their own. The total estimated death toll from the GULAGs ranges from

My Response TOPIC 3 Does a person need to be innocent to deserve forgiveness? Is there something in the world that is unforgivable? Is there a limit or spectrum to forgiveness? As a Catholic, what do I know in my faith? Does my forgiveness matter? I have no right to influence other people's decisions. “You must choose which perspective is best, and your choice will have much to do with your feelings about the preciousness of life, and not only the preciousness of other people's lives” (Hallie, 1981) Virtue Ethics TOPIC 4 “Virtue ethics looks at virtue or moral character, rather than at ethical duties and rules, or the consequences of actions” (Ethics - Introduction to ethics: Ethics: A general introduction, 2014) “The theological virtues are characteristics essential to the Christian idea of human flourishing, although they are not exclusively Christian” (Kyte, 2012). A person can make ethical decisions based on what they believe a person of good character would do (Faith, hope, and love). I would choose to forgive, and that we can choose to learn from the events of the Holocaust

The average climate is 72.5-78.6 with good rainfall from May-September. sunflower location In fukushima there was a nuclear disaster, the city got covered in radiation and people had to leave their homes. Why Sunflowers Sunflowers are great for cleaning nuclear disasters. The reason sunflowers are used to clean up nuclear disasters is because the are really good at taking up certain radioactive istopes by planting them in the area for example chernobyl. The radioistopes mimic some of the nutrients that the plant takes up normally. Each sunflower will be 30 inches apart. Don't plant them in wet, swampy areas. They require medium to high nitrogen levels in soil. 1 inch of moisture per week. The reason The sunflower has many uses than just it seeds. They are used for soap from their oil, animal feed from they're seeds, fuel for cars and trucks from the oil, some kinds of glue, special paints, and salad dressing. Requirements and harvest -The farm will be 130 acres. -It will have shipping stations. -The farm will be manual labor for careful harvesting. -It will be managed by employees. -It will be owned by my family and by the next generation. Pest fukushima, japan They will be planted in May and harvested in august. The sunflowers have many uses for example their oil is used for soap, fuel for cars and trucks, salad dressing, some kinds of glue, and special paints. The pest for the sunflower is: -Cut Worms -Grasshoppers -Inch Worms -Painted Lady Caterpillar -Seed Weevils sunflowers Disaster The weather conditions for the sunflower to grow is 64-91 degrees. They can survive in droughts and recover quickly with little water even if they are half dead. Why sunflowers

Transcript: SCIN130 Organism Profile Presentation Location of Study: Fort Bliss, TX How does the sunflower obtain and store its energy? The sunflower (IFAS) is a crucial necessity for small birds who migrate for shelter. They provide safety before the birds feed and continue with their migration. The sunflower provides a bountiful habitat for bird populations and in return the birds feed on small, succulent insects such as grasshoppers that can do major crop damage (2003, August 22). The Sunflower The sunflower (Wind Energy) obtains its energy directly from the sun's light and rays. It stores its energy through a process called photosynthesis. Due to it's uniqueness, another process known as heliotropism occurs, in which the sunflower absorbs energy with in its response to the direction of the sun's travel similar to solar panels (2012, August 15). Common Name: The Sunflower The sunflower (Biology: The Dynamic Science) stores most of its energy within the seeds. Birds, insects, rodents, and humans consume them for its chemical energy. Upon it's death, decomposers such as bacteria and fungi feed on the remains which are then recycled back into the life cycle of the plant (2013, p.4). Habitat cont. Biotic Interactions cont. Making the neighborhood look beautiful, one sunflower at a time. Energy Ecology cont. Reproductive Ecology cont. by Enrique Decal References The sunflower ("All about sunflower") is found throughout North and Central America. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, cultivation developments grew in Europe. During the turn of the 19th century, the sunflower was recognized commercially in both North America and Europe. Dry, open areas and prairies with lots of sun and nutrient-rich soil is what the sunflower enjoys the most (2014). The pistol ("Three unique qualities of sunflowers") consists of the style, stigma, and ovary. It is the female reproductive organ located on the tiny florets of the sunflower's head. The male reproductive organ is classified as the pistol which is made up of the anther and the filament. The anther consists of pollen grains which is located at the tip with the filament. The anther is attached to the filament to provide stability. Together they form the androecium which can consists of more than one stamen (2014, August 30).
