The right meditation The Sermon on the Mount emphasizes that God favors those who suffer, that suffering is good. Buddha says to rid yourself of all suffering by not giving into your desires. Buddha tells his followers the world is evil, and one should resist temptation. Jesus proclaims that the world is good but sin shadows over. Comparing Sermons Buddha states in his sermon that none have sinned, yet Jesus tells his followers that all have sinned, they must ask God for forgiveness. Buddha, who was once Siddhartha Gautama, received the name Buddha once he became enlightened. He leaves his royal family and goes off and find truth in the world. He has this great realization that the world he lives in is imperfect. Buddha achieves the state of Nirvana* with the four noble truths and the eightfold path. Buddha uses these to teach his followers the way they should live their lives. Eightfold Path The Sermon on the Mount is found in chapters 5-7 in the book of Matthew. Jesus preaches to the people to do good in the world. Early on, it was believed that those with wealth, good health, power, etc. were favored by God. However, Jesus comes to say that this is not true. He tells people that God favors the unfortunate—those who may not be wealthy but are rich with righteousness, those who do good things for others even when they are given so little.

Transcript: … I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? Holy Spirit, make your dwelling in _____(name)_________'s body. Guide him/her in service to you. Protect him/her in weakness. Guard him/from temptation. I pray a special blessing on his/her ____(body part)________, so that his/her whole being would glorify you. Amen. You are a temple How am I doing at eating a well-balanced diet? How am I doing at exercising? 1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? How am I using my body in worship? Body Blessing 1 Corinthians 3:10–11, 16–23 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile." So let no one boast about human leaders. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future — all belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. How am I honoring bodies in relationships? How am I using my body in service to others?
