Its is a sacrament of sacrifice and also a meal. Under the appearance of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. Scripture Passage Scripture Passage "And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying "This is my body given for you: do this in remembrance of me." Transcript: By: Lucas W, Lucas E, and Emily N When Does it Take Place? White Garment Baptismal Candle Baptisms have been taking place for centuries and have been traced all the way back Jewish Rituals and the old the testament. Water Dressing in White - The person being baptized dresses in white. They dress in white as it symbolizes purity and faith, as well as Jesus wore a white gown when he was placed in his tomb. Baptism represents the persons entry into the catholic church, as well as the beginning of their journey to becoming a member of the church and discovering who you are as a catholic. As well, it is the first step toward becoming a confirmed member of the church, as it will be followed by first communion and confirmation. Sponsors - Everyone Baptized must have a sponsor. Sponsors used to have many responsibilities, however no they duties are being a good christian role model and being supportive Baptism and Life This reveals that the sacrament is very important as this ritual is still practiced to this day. The Purpose The ongoing effect of the sacrament (eg. How does this sacrament keep the traditions of the catholic faith alive in our culture) Sacrament Presentation Assignment: Baptism Baptism generally takes place in infancy, where a parent decides to enter their child into the church. However, people who decide to join the church later in life are able to be baptized when they are ready to begin their life in Christ. The Use of Water - The Priest or Deacon administers the sacrament, first by applying oils and pours blessed water over the child or adult's head three times. They pour water of the person being baptized to wash away and clean their sins away. The water that is poured onto the baptized heads represents the cleansing of the soul, and symbolized the washing away of all sins. It also represents life, and how, without water, nothing can grow, therefore symbolizing the beginning of spiritual growth. Takes Place on Sundays - Baptism takes place on Sunday during parish or mass in the early afternoon after all masses are over. Baptism usually take place on Sunday as it is the day of resurrection The colour white represents life, purity, and innocence, therefore symbolizing the beginning of a new life in Christ, and a clean slate to grow in the church. This keeps the Traditions of the Catholic faith alive in our culture as many people who were baptized will want their children to be baptized as they were. Lit from the flame of the Easter candle, the Baptismal Candle symbolizes the light of Christ, and the newly baptized "opening their eyes to the light of creation". Symbolism The Rituals Associated with the Sacrament and their Meaning The tradition of Baptism continues on due as it is now customary in many families for a child to be baptized. What Does it Commemorate? The baptism ritual is a participatory one, with all attendees rejecting Satan and professing their faith towards Catholicism. Like the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Orders, as a Catholic, you’re baptized just once. These sacraments put a mark on your soul meaning no one can ever be un-baptized or re-baptized.

Transcript: By Alannah, Caitlin and Riley Sacrament of Marriage Definition of Marriage Definition of Marriage Marriage is a practice common to all cultures in all ages. It is, therefore, a natural institution, something common to all mankind. At its most basic level, marriage is a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and mutual support, or love. Each spouse in a marriage gives up some rights over his or her life in exchange for rights over the life of the other spouse. Scripture references about marriage Scripture References scripture 1 Isaiah 54:5: “For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called." Scripture 2 Genesis 1:27-28: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.' " Scripture 3 Ephesians 5:25: “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her." What is the Catholic catechism? A catechism is best defined as a summary of instructions through a series of questions and answers, prepared in book form, containing instruction on the religious doctrine of a Christian church. I However, the catechism of the Catholic Church is not written in a question-and-answer format. Instead, it is a summary of the official teachings of Catholic beliefs including creeds, sacraments, commandments, and prayers, divided into four parts: • Profession of Faith (the Apostles Creed) • Celebration of the Christian Mystery (the Sacred Liturgy, especially the sacraments) • Life in Christ (including The Ten Commandments in Roman Catholic theology) • Christian Prayer (including The Lord's Prayer) Catechism about marriage Catechism Catechism 1 THE MARRIAGE BOND 1639 The consent by which the spouses mutually give and receive one another is sealed by God himself.143 From their covenant arises "an institution, confirmed by the divine law, . . . even in the eyes of society."144 The covenant between the spouses is integrated into God's covenant with man: "Authentic married love is caught up into divine love."145 THE EFFECTS OF THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY 1638 "From a valid marriage arises a bond between the spouses which by its very nature is perpetual and exclusive; furthermore, in a Christian marriage the spouses are strengthened and, as it were, consecrated for the duties and the dignity of their state by a special sacrament."142 catechism 2 Catechism 3 1645 "The unity of marriage, distinctly recognized by our Lord, is made clear in the equal personal dignity which must be accorded to man and wife in mutual and unreserved affection." youtube clip on marriage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e04WPLpbIdY How and Why is marriage important for the World a... Marriage is important in the world today as it is the building blocks of society. It is in the family that children learn to become citizens; it is in the family that children learn about relationships; it is in the family that children learn about what is expected of them in society, how to act and how to be. Marriage is the beginning—the beginning of the family—and is a life-long commitment. It also provides an opportunity to grow in selflessness as you serve your wife and children. Marriage is more than a physical union; it is also a spiritual and emotional union. This union mirrors the one between God and His Church. How and Why is marriage important for the World and the Church today? Why is marriage a Vocation? Marriage is a vocation as vocation means strong feeling of suitability for a particular career or occupation. Marriage. The love shown between a Christian husband and wife becomes a sign of the radical love shown by Christ in his life, death and resurrection. Christian marriage is not just an expression of human affection, it is a sacrament of the love of Christ, a way for husband and wife to minister to each other and to their children. And in this way the Christian family becomes a place where others can see the beauty and power of Christ’s redeeming love, a love that is often obscured in our fallen world. This is why marriage is a Christian vocation. Marriage could be called a ‘natural’ vocation. God, who is love, has created us in his own image and likeness, and planted in our hearts a longing to love and be loved. And it is perfectly natural that as men and women we should want this love to be fulfilled in the love of marriage – a love that is without reservation, faithful, lifelong, and open to new life. When this marriage is between two Christians it is transformed into a sacrament, and the natural and God-given call to marriage becomes something far, far deeper – a joyful and costly call to follow Christ and to

Transcript: A raised hand Scriptual References Description of Sacrament An act of self mortification or devotion performed voluntarily to show sorrow for a sin or other wrong doing. Penance is also known as recociliation. Reconciliation has 3 elements: conversion, confession and celeration. We are called to forgive others using God's unconditional love. Those with true sorrow may confess their sins and be forgiven by God. Reflection on "Let It Be" The priest makes a Sign of the Cross over the penitent as he recites the final words of the Prayer of Absolution, “And I absolve you from you sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Hebrews 12:14 Impact on our daily lives "Let It Be" The Beatles Ephesians 4:32 Bibliography The symbol originates with Jesus’ words to Peter, “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 16:19a), by which Jesus gave his authority to the Church in his continuing statement, “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven,"(Mt 16:19b), by which he established the Sacrament of Reconciliation and gave the Church the authority to forgive sins. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Lyrics During the Rite of Reconciliation, after the penitent tells his sins, the priest offers the Prayer of Absolution -the blessing that removes the person’s sins- and as he does so he extends his right hand over the penitent’s head. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
