Transcript: A raised hand Scriptual References Description of Sacrament An act of self mortification or devotion performed voluntarily to show sorrow for a sin or other wrong doing. Penance is also known as recociliation. Reconciliation has 3 elements: conversion, confession and celeration. We are called to forgive others using God's unconditional love. Those with true sorrow may confess their sins and be forgiven by God. Reflection on "Let It Be" The priest makes a Sign of the Cross over the penitent as he recites the final words of the Prayer of Absolution, “And I absolve you from you sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Hebrews 12:14 Impact on our daily lives "Let It Be" The Beatles Ephesians 4:32 Bibliography The symbol originates with Jesus’ words to Peter, “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 16:19a), by which Jesus gave his authority to the Church in his continuing statement, “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven,"(Mt 16:19b), by which he established the Sacrament of Reconciliation and gave the Church the authority to forgive sins. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Lyrics During the Rite of Reconciliation, after the penitent tells his sins, the priest offers the Prayer of Absolution -the blessing that removes the person’s sins- and as he does so he extends his right hand over the penitent’s head. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
