Electrical Engineer

Transcript: Electrical Engineering A specialist in areas such as power systems, equipment manufacturing, or building design. Overall, though, electrical engineers handle the development of lighting, wiring systems, electric motors, navigation systems, and utilities. Electrical engineers who focus on the field of electronics might design communications systems or develop new tech gadgets. I think i would enjoy being an engineer, since childhood I've always had a drive to take my toys apart and attempt to put them back together. I've always been a team member and being an engineer is all about team work. I work well with others. I like that the field is so wide that i wouldnt be working on electrical circuits that light up a home. I am going to specialize in the Computer part of Electrical Engineering. I will be putting in hardware into computers and also writing code. ( Code is the symbolic arrangement of data or instructions in a computer program or the set of such instructions.) My only concern with this career is the amount of time i will spend on one project. From coming in early to leaving very late. The average salary for an Electrical Engineer in the metro-plex area with 0-1 year of experience is 60,770 Some benefits may include: Social Security 401K/403B Disability Healthcare Pension Time Off With a Bachelors in Engineering one can be classified an Engineer. Students often complete their general education and prerequisite coursework, including sequences in calculus and physics. Engineering major courses include topics such as digital systems, electronic circuits, signals and linear systems, engineering problems. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for an electrical engineer is expected to increase by only two percent. This is because U.S companies hire Engineers from other countries at a lower wages. Electrical engineers may find work with state and federal governments , manufacturing plants, as well as scientific and technical organizations. • Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes. • Install and maintain electrical control systems • Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations. • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts. Most Electrical Engineers work 40 hours a week in a laboratories, contruction cites and offices. To start planning for this career i am going to take College Algebra or Pre-calculus (haven't decided) this summer at Collin College. Then start taking calculus at Oklahoma State University. http://www.bls.gov/k12/math02.htm http://education-portal.com/articles/Electrical_Engineer_Employment_Outlook_for_the_Electrical_Engineering_Career_Field.html http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Texas-Instruments-Electrical-Design-Engineer-Dallas-Salaries-EJI_IE651.0,17_KO18,44_IL.45,51_IM218.htm http://swz.salary.com/SalaryWizard/Electrical-Engineer-I-Salary-Details-Dallas-TX.aspx http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/science-engineering-careers/Elec_electricalengineeringtechnician_c001.shtml Dis-Likes What is an Electrical Engineer? Transcript: Supervise manufacturing process and attend meetings to discuss and plan projects Posible Entry Points Potential Advancements I need to improve on geometry and english skills along with biology. BY ANDREW WU Entry Wage Hourly- $34.10 Annual- $70,930 Median Wage Hourly- $41.78 Annual- $86,890 Experienced Wage Hourly- $51.17 Annual- $106,430 Along with their salaries most engineers also receive benefits, including health and dental insurance and paid sick leave and vacation time. Other benefits include performance-based bonuses, and use of a company car. Use computer programs to design products, components, or electrical systems and test systems and equipment to make sure they perform as required Training I am interested in computers and wiring and how they work. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is offered at colleges across the country. Electrical Engineer My Goals I can work towards a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and take classes like chemestry, physics, trigonometry, and world history. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and labor needed for projects A lot of the work electrical engineers do is done at a desk, in front of a computer. Sometimes they are required to respond to and solve problems on the factory or power plant floor and engineers who specialize in telecommunications equipment may have to travel to communications towers to install or repair equipment. Those who work as consultants may go across the country or the world to their clients’ factories. The average starting salary for those with bachelor’s degrees in electrical/electronic and communications engineering is about $60,000 a year. Resouces: http://www.careercruising.com Potential advancements are: Trainee Junior Engineer Intermediate Engineer Senior Engineer Manager / Senior Partner Highly trained specialists with lots of experience and senior-level managers can earn well over $125,000 a year. Most electrical engineers in the United States earn between $53,000 and $126,000 a year I enjoy playing around with the computer and figuring stuff out. Also I find wiring and circuits interesting. On the job, electrical engineers use precise drafting and designing techniques to turn their ideas into products that help consumers. The tools they use include computer programs, such as CAD (computer-aided design) programs, which give three-dimensional views of their designs. At the undergraduate level, students are taught how to design and build electrical communications systems, power systems, and computers. Electrical engineers work between 40 and 45 hours a week, depending on deadlines and workload. Many can also expect to work a fair number of evenings and weekends when they are under pressure to meet a deadline. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is the minimum educational requirement but a master's degree or PhD is often required for academic or advanced research and development positions. Vacation time varies from company to company, but most electrical engineers take between 2 and 4 weeks of vacation a year. Nature of the Work/ Outlook Potential Benefits Earnings A bachelor's degree costs around 40,00 dollars (10,000 per year) and increases as you work a PHD.
