Also needed is a provincials teaching certificate in order to teach. This should take Requirements Needed Specific skills needed As a teacher, you need to have proficiencies in reading, document use (such as Microsoft Word), writing, numeracy, oral communication, critical thinking and assessing, as well as digital technology. Skills Working conditions What to expect A teachers work environment is constantly changing as new students come and go, as well as the alterations to the curriculum. But it is expected to collaborate and communicate with co-workers in order to advance and support the students and create learning opportunities. Local Outlook Elementary In the Calgary area, there are around 14,240 teachers. The predicted growth is good. Secondary In the Calgary area, there is around 5,350 teachers. The prediction is fair. People who might want to be a teacher should be, able to communicate their points effectively, be engaging, a good leader, and assertive. They should be caring and able to work with others, As well as people who can handle a changing environment and multiple responsibilities at once. Career Paths Available Depending on their chosen level of schooling to teach, teachers do not have to be what we think of when we think of teachers. They can advance to become a Principal or Dean of Students, going into a more over-seer job. They can also go into administrative work for a school board or become a counselor. Options Salaries Income What teachers earn can increase based off of time working. People who receive more or less education will have salaries to reflect that. The average starting wage for teachers is $36.27 an hour. Overtime, that will increase to around $50.23 an hour.
