White represents the clouds in the sky. Yellow represents the sun in the sky. Blue represents the whole background of the sky, the atmosphere. This is because yellow typically isn't used to make things look good, however, it is used as a noticeable addition. Because, since it isn't used a lot, when its used, it's very noticeable. Also, I learned that the meaning and use of yellow has changed the most of any color over the years, going from negative and disgraceful, to happy and luminous. Idioms for Blue Deeper Meaning Historical Background: Yellow was commonly used as a negative tone towards emotions and qualities, hundreds of years ago. Artists and poets used it as being hateful, and offensive. A reason for this was because members of the church had used yellow to refer to disease and discomfort, when creating explanations for certain events. I notice that white is seen almost everywhere I look. Now I associate white as a blank canvas waiting to be written on, and it is an opening for the creation of anything that the mind can conceive. Non-literal Usage Why did I choose this color? Antonyms joyous happy extatic White is one of the most common colors in nature. In many cultures, white represents goodness, innocence, purity, and light. It is the opposite of darkness or black. In the book Colors Demonic and Divine, white was described as "angelic and pure" during the middle ages. Unlike black, white usually has a positive connotation. Historical Background: My thoughts after research Idioms/phrases In John Flaxman's Wedgwood Pegasus Vase, white decor is used on top of a pale blue vase to display people and a Pegasus as purely and divinely as possible. The deeper meaning behind blue is sadness and depression. The feeling of being blue, is a metaphor for being sad. Synonyms and Antonyms Historical Background: After thoughts In the song "White Christmas" Irving Berlin, he uses white in a literal sense to describe a very snowy Christmas, but figuratively a white Christmas could be one that is pure, and perfect. In the poem "Let The Cloth Be White" by William Carleton, he uses white to figuratively describe a lady setting a table with a white cloth, which is supposed to be interpreted as making the table pure, clean, and heavenly to appreciate what they have and be closer to their religion. The End I chose white as it is one of the most common colors in nature. White can be seen almost every where you look. White is very interesting as it is made up of every color on the spectrum. White also has many different symbolic meanings. This made me want to research more about white. The song uses those non literal uses of blue but also in the sense of a real literal blue house as in the color. Which is just a metaphor for how the boy sees his home. Antonyms: black, dark, gloomy, dirty. I chose the color yellow because it completed our groups idea of a sky. The bright yellow sun can completely change the feel of the picture, and adds another color. Also, I had never really used yellow, and thought it would be good to research.
