Transcript: If the sailor wants to travel in the same direction as the wind, then all he or she has to do is hold the sail perpendicular to the wind and let the boat be pushed from behind. The Jackson Yacht Club (JYC) is looking to build a brand new type of vessel that can harness the power of wind. RESEARCH STEP 1: STATE THE PROBLEM The parts of my boat that went right was the design of the sail and hull. The parts that went wrong was my keels/rudder.My fastest time was 2.93(first trial) and then my times got worse after that. If I did this project again, I would keep my sail and hull design, but try a different kind of keel and form of weight. STEP 4: BUILD THE ITEM Wind has to be moving against the boat at an angle of at least 40 degrees for most vessels. Angling too sharply into the wind causes the forces on the boat to become unbalanced, and moves the boat sideways in the water. STEP 3: SELECT A SOLUTION STEP 2: GENERATE IDEAS Dimensions - length:6.5 inches - width: 5.5 inches - height: 7.5 inches On a sailboat, wind blowing against the boat at an angle inflates the sail, and it forms a similar foil shape, creating a difference in pressure that pushes the sail perpendicular to the wind direction. Transcript: Jamie Purpose Purpose What is the purpose of a sailboat? The purpose of a sailboat is to transport items across a body of water or to use for enjoyment. The sailboat uses the wind to power it. Problem solving Problem solving The sailboat has solved how to get from one side of land,across a body of water to the next side of land. Creation one In 1300 BC the Mesopotamia (now modern day Iraq) created the first sailboat. They made it out of wood and cloth. They created the boat because they wanted to catch the fish in the middle of the lakes and seas as well they wanted to set up trade with other cities across the lakes. Creation two The Egyptians made papyrus boats in 4000 BC. The Egyptians made these boats to make shipping and transportation easier. The problem was they were small, were only good for fishing and made for short trips and they wanted to use them to transport larger items like crates The Hanse boat made in Germany is one of the most modern day boats of 2019. Complete with beds and a kitchen this boat is practically a mini house. This boat makes sailing faster and easier than ever. So far there have been no problems with this boat.
