Transcript: Myths about Beetles Over 350,000 species of beetles are assigned to the Order Coleoptera, which is the largest order of insects. Beetles represent a fifth of all living organisms. 20,000 occur in Europe: more than 4,000 of these in Britain. Nearly every strategy of biological life is represented in this group of insects that arose in the Permian period 240 million years ago (Evans & Bellamy 1996). Beetles have invaded nearly all habitats and exploited all possible food sources. They include plant feeders, scavengers, predators and parasites that can be found in habitats from the Polar Regions to the equator. Many beetles are serious pests: bark beetles can cause great harm to trees, some other species can infest foodstuffs whilst chafers and leaf beetles can cause serious harm to crops. In contrast to this, many beetles are beneficial and play an important role as nutrient recyclers returning organic matter through multitrophic interactions, which contribute to soil fertility. This great diversity and ability to adapt, along with being a key component in the workings of the biosphere, make beetles one of the most abundant and successful of all insects. Economic Impact on Humans The particular species of beetle represented in the numerous ancient Egyptian amulets and works of art was commonly the large sacred scarab (Scarabaeus sacer). This beetle was famous for his habit of rolling balls of dung along the ground and depositing them in its burrows. The female would lay her eggs in the ball of dung. When they hatched, the larvae would use the ball for food. When the dung was consumed the young beetles would emerge from the hole. Millions of amulets and stamp seals of stone or faience were fashioned in Egypt depicted the scarab beetle. The Scarab Beetle! By: Chris Hermann Beetle Historical Impact Dr. Duane T. Gish, assistant director of the Institute for Creation Research, has made some extravagant and unfounded claims about the bombardier beetle (genus Brachinus). This beetle defends itself by shooting boiling-hot fluids out its rear end at its attackers; Gish argues that no ordinary beetle could have slowly evolved into a bombardier beetle through any conceivable transitional forms because a transitional beetle with an incomplete mechanism would have either been burdened with a load of useless baggage, or else have blown itself to smithereens. The Mountain Pike Beetle! Beetles Preventing these bark borers from spreading throughout the western U.S. costs the U.S. Forest Service about $300 million a year. Mountain pine beetles kill around 6 million acres of pines a year in the U.S. Significance in Ecosystem

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Transcript: how the stinger harms people Well acording to most people infact 69% of the people I asked, don't like hornets. The bad part which connects to my second question is there are no sprays out there to prevent it. So I thought acording to everything you found out in the prezi why not make a spray. The ingredents I used was the citris of a lemen because the smell stings when a bee snifs it. The next ingredent is some cloves, I used them because when mixed with the leman it creates a strong smell that sticks. The next two ingredents need to really be mixed threwly to work but you need to add soap and water, and dissolve them. Once you have your lemen and clove mixture and your soapy water mixture you add them together, mix, and apply just a bit on your wrist and then well your done. One tip that is recomended is to stay away from meats. This also means taking out the garbage is a bad thing to do. The second tip is to stay away from bringing juice, posicles, and even ice cream outside. The last tip is to STAY away from flowers and gardens. Tips to use that can help the hornets stay away Question 1# and #2 are people scared of hornets, and can we prevent them from stinging us? My spray Hornets by Ruba Ahmed What do hornets eat How to identify the hornet The Hornets it's self has over ten different food interests. The hornet shares 50% of it's food intrests with it's partners the wasp and the yellow jacket. The worker hornet often feeds on sugary liquids such as nectar or juices. That is why you may spot some by rotten fruits. One hard place to spot a hornet at work is in your drinks.Hornets can also be spoted eating other insect which is actualy good for us. The last place you might spot a hornet is in your garbage. They go by garbages insearch of meat. As you know the honey bee is small, but does the most work in the bee community by pollinating, and they barely ever sting. You may be wondering what does the hornet do? Well the hornet works in a group with the wasp and the yellow jacket. Together the three of them take a break in spring and summer, but when fall comes that's when they strike. They go by picnics and usually by rotten fruit. The most aggressive bee is said to bee the wasp, but the one that hurts the most is the yellow jacket, so that leaves the hornet in last place in the group, but you should still stay away from one when you see one. They can also sting more than once. If you have a life threatning diseases to a bee, you probaby want to know how to identify that bee from the others. One tip is to look at it's strips to see what your dealing with. Lets say your at a picnic and you spot a bee if it has thick furry strips it's a bumbule bee. If it has thin furry strips it's a honey bee. If it's got thin bold strips it's a hornet. Sometimes it's hard to see the strips on a bee so the next tip is to look at it's size. If it's thin you have a wasp. If it's mediam sized you have a hornet. The hardest bee to tell from the others is the yellow jacket because some are thin and some are wide. So how you know one of these is near is if you look at their strips, because thay have dark and splaterd strips on their back. Although to some people the sting of a bee is nothing. Other people in the world suffer with a rare condition that only 3% of people suffer called Anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a life threatening type of allergic reaction that includes shock. It can cause a state of collapse, weakening, or sometimes death. In anaphylaxis, your immune system releases chemicals that make you experience allergy symptoms throughout your body.
