Merrimack High School provides us with storage space, 2 workshops, a practice room, funding for travel/registration, and a flexible practice and gym rental schedule. Furthermore, Merrimack Middle School also hosts our lego camp (which is still looking for more campers this for this summer)! We would like to extend a huge thank you to this amazing school and district for truly embracing STEM education and empowering our students to compete at an international level. Chop Shop will continue to give back to the district in every way possible! Every year FIRST releases a challenge theme and a different robot game. We completely build a competitive robot in six weeks to meet the challenges of each game. However, Chop Shop is about more than robots; we create a Chairman’s presentation every year, which describes our community impact and outreach. Being part of an FRC team allows you to grow whatever interest or passion you have, and share it with everyone! Teams are given six weeks to complete a robot to overcome the challenges each game provides. This year's challenge was FIRST Stronghold which involved crossing various obstacles and shooting boulders (10" diameter foam balls) into goals. In addition to the robot game, teams compete for the Chairman's Award. This is the most prestigious award in FIRST. The team which wins this award has had the greatest measurable impact on their community. It is a great honor to win this award. FRC is one of the four divisions of FIRST. FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology and heavily emphasizes the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), business, leadership, animation, and effective communication skills. FRC focuses on helping high school students develop these skills through a robot game and a competition for the Chairman's Award. Merrimack High School's robotics team, Chop Shop 166, is an FRC team. We actively market ourselves and contribute to STEM outreach all year, but we heavily emphasize the first two months of the calendar year as we prepare for each year's robot game. Thank You to Merrimack School District! RH Murphy Inc. Rapid Sheetmetal ColorCo RightPath Companies LLC. Physicians Resources LTD. B&K Industrial Finishing Inc. EmbroidMe Chop Shop has very close ties to the FIRST organization. This year, we created a map of every FRC team location in the world, ran a FIRST Lego League (FLL) qualifying event, and hosted Week Zero, a competition where FIRST tests the field for that year's game. Our team understands that our organization's impact on a community is not derived exclusively from the robot we build. Every year we travel around the Merrimack area performing robot demonstrations, attending and hosting events, participating in charities, and running fundraisers to spread the message of FIRST and contribute to our community. Starting new FTC teams Chop Talk Girl Scout Science Fair Robot Game and Chairman's Award In our school we have been able to make large improvements to the current engineering and science cultures. We added new machinery in the school's shop, purchased new technology that enables us to spread STEM, and even inspired three new classes in the curriculum so that anyone in the school can learn about engineering and science. Our school allowed us to visit various freshman classes to recruit students and inspire them in STEM and business.
