Transcript: Information Literacy Information Literacy is the capability to identify what information is needed, comprehend how the information is organized, and being able to distinguish the best sources of information for a given claim. Locating sources, assesing sources critically, and sharing the information are also part of Information Literacry as well. Simply, it is the realization of commonly used research techniques. Why Is It Important? Information Literacy isn't just important, it is critically important due to the fact that there are a growing number of information. Available research on the internet can either be false or valid. People have no way to figure out which is which. Anyone is able to put a website on the internet with whatever information they desire. Some information is authoritative, current, reliable, but on the other hand some is biased, out of date, misleading, and false. The amount of information available is going to keep increasing and the types of technology used to access, manipulate, and create information will additionally increase. Future Information Literacy benefits research today and will continue to be favorable in future years. More and more information will continue to develop and it will be harder to differenciate the valid from false information. Is Information Literacy a contraversal topic? Information Literacy is not a controversial topic. As explained before, it is the knowledge of knowing techniques when researching a topic.
