(image below) Syphilis has four stages: primary, secondary, latent, and tertiery. Primary syphilis is identified by a sore or sores at the site of infection on the genitals, anus, or rectum. Sores can be firm, round, and completely painless. Secondary stages are identified by swollen lymp nodes, fevers, and skin rashes. Latent phase of syphilis goes without symptoms. The tertiary phase of syphilis causes damage to multiple organs such as the brain, heart, and many other organs. By this time doctors have to run multiple tests to see the result of the damage. The incubation period is about 20 to 90 days from the date the patient is infected. this is when T. pallidum multiplies and is very had for the immune system to fight due to the structure of the organism. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK534780/) Signs and Symptoms Signs and Symptoms Primary syphilis is identified by a sore or sores at the site of infection on the genitals, anus, or rectum. Sores can be firm, round, and completely painless. Secondary stages are identified by swollen lymp nodes, fevers, and skin rashes. This is also when lesions in your mucos membranes show up. It can manifest as one or more lesions. Without the right treatment the symptoms will subside here, but the infection will advance to Latent phase. Latent phase of syphilis goes without symptoms. Just because one does not have symptoms does not mean the infection has gone away! The tertiary phase of syphilis causes damage to multiple organs such as the brain, heart, and many other organs. By this time doctors have to run multiple tests to see the result of the damage. (https://www.cdc.gov/std/syphilis/stdfact-syphilis.htm) Advanced Syphilis If left untreated, syphilis can cause damage to multiple organs. If it advances to neurosyphilis, you can have migranes, coordination issues, paralysis, numbness, or even dementia. It can also become ocular syphilis and cause damage to the eyes. If advanced to this stage, it can also cause death if left untreated. (It actually killed Beethoven because in his time, there were no treatments.) Advanced Transmission Transmission There is two ways syphilis can be transmitted from one individual to another. One is from mother to baby during birth, and the other is through unprotected sex. If you are planning on becoming pregnant, get tested and recieve immediate treatment this way it does not affect your baby. Babies born with syphilis can be premature or have low birth weights. If an individual is having unprotected sex whether it be anal, vaginal, or oral sex, and the transmitter has an open and active sore. If you are in a relationship and unsure, get tested and practice safe sex. Prevention/ Treatment Prevention Preventing syphilis can be done with ease. If one is having vaginal, or anal sex use latex condoms properly. Being in a monogamous relationship with one who has been tested for syphilis is also another route of prevention. if one tests positive for syphilis, treatment is readily available. If within the first three stages, one gets an IM shot of Penicillin. One can also recieve doxycyline, tetracycline, ceftriaxone. if one is within the late stages of latent syphilis, they get IM penicillin for one time a week for three weeks. other options are PO doxycycline or tetracycline for up to four weeks. Transcript: STI/STD EDUCATION SYPHILIS FACTS Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause serious health problems if it is not treated. Syphilis is divided into stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). There are different signs and symptoms associated with each stage. Syphilis is a highly contagious disease spread primarily by sexual activity. Occasionally, the disease can be passed to another person through prolonged kissing or close bodily contact. Although this disease is spread from sores, the vast majority of those sores go unrecognized. The infected person is often unaware of the disease and unknowingly passes it on to his or her partner. If you've been infected with syphilis for less than a year, a single dose of penicillin is usually enough to destroy the infection. For those allergic to penicillin, tetracycline, doxycycline or another antibiotic can be given instead. If you are in a later stage of disease, more doses will be needed. However, treatment will not undo any damage that the infection has already done. first (primary) stage of syphilis, you may notice a single sore, but there may be multiple sores. The sore is the location where syphilis entered your body. The sore is usually firm, round, and painless. The sore usually lasts 3 to 6 weeks and heals regardless of whether or not you receive treatment. Even after the sore goes away, you must still receive treatment. This will stop your infection from moving to the secondary stage. During the secondary stage, the rash can look like rough, red, or reddish brown spots on the palms of your hands and/or the bottoms of your feet. During the secondary stage, you may have skin rashes and/or mucous membrane lesions. Other symptoms you may have can include fever, swollen lymph glands, sore throat, patchy hair loss, headaches, weight loss, muscle aches, and fatigue (feeling very tired). The symptoms from this stage will go away whether or not you receive treatment.Mucous membrane lesions are sores in your mouth, vagina, or anus. Symptoms of the late stage of syphilis include difficulty coordinating your muscle movements, paralysis (not able to move certain parts of your body), numbness, blindness, and dementia (mental disorder). In the late stages of syphilis, the disease damages your internal organs and can result in death. CHLAMYDIA FACTS Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the U.S. This infection is easily spread because it often causes no symptoms and may be unknowingly passed to sexual partners. In fact, about 75% of infections in women and 50% in men are without symptoms. Chlamydia is more common in young people, especially young women. You are more likely to get it if you have multiple partners.Chlamydia affects both men and women and occurs in all age groups, though it's most prevalent among young women. Chlamydia isn't difficult to treat once you know you have it. Although it is easy to cure, chlamydia can make it difficult for a woman to get pregnant if left untreated. chlamydia can be cured with the right treatment. It is important that you take all of the medication your doctor prescribes to cure your infection. When taken properly it will stop the infection and could decrease your chances of having complications later on. GONORRHEA FACTS Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years. Gonorrhea can be cured with the right medication. Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious health problems in both women and men. MEN A burning sensation when urinating; A white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis; Painful or swollen testicles (although this is less common). WOMEN Painful or burning sensation when urinating; Increased vaginal discharge; Vaginal bleeding between periods. BOTH Anal itching; Soreness; Bleeding; Painful bowel movements. UNTREATED Formation of scar tissue that blocks fallopian tubes Ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb Infertility (inability to get pregnant); Long-term pelvic/abdominal pain. TREATMENT Although medication will stop the infection, it will not undo any permanent damage caused by the disease. HERPES FACTS Herpes is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that any sexually active person can get. Most people with the virus don’t have symptoms. It is important to know that even without signs of the disease, it can still spread to sexual partners. Genital herpes is an STD caused by two types of viruses. The viruses are called herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1 oral) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2 genital). Oral herpes caused by HSV-1 can be spread from the mouth to the genitals. This is why some cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-1. HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS(HPV) FACTS HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). HPV is a different virus than HIV and HSV

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Templates

Transcript: Templates The key to generic programs a simple code! Output? Answer Namespaces Namespace is a feature added in C++ and not present in C. A namespace is a declarative region that provides a scope to the identifiers (names of the types, function, variables etc) inside it. Multiple namespace blocks with the same name are allowed. Templates Templates Templates are powerful features of C++ which allows you to write generic programs. In simple terms, you can create a single function or a class to work with different data types using templates. Advantages: Readability Flexibility Re-usability Function Template FUnction Templates A single function template can work with different data types at once but, a single normal function can only work with one set of data types. Normally, if you need to perform identical operations on two or more types of data, you use function overloading. However, a better approach would be to use function templates because you can perform the same task writing less and maintainable code. Example Sometimes, you need a class implementation that is same for all classes, only the data types used are different. Normally, you would need to create a different class for each data type OR create different member variables and functions within a single class. This will unnecessarily bloat your code base and will be hard to maintain, as a change is one class/function should be performed on all classes/functions. Class Template Class Templates Example virtual functions virtual functions Virtual functions ensure that the correct function is called for an object, regardless of the type of reference (or pointer) used for function call. They are mainly used to achieve Run-time polymorphism. The prototype of virtual functions should be same in base as well as derived class. They are always defined in base class and overridden in derived class. It is not mandatory for derived class to override Example Pass by reference Pass-by-reference means to pass the reference of an argument in the calling function to the corresponding formal parameter of the called function. The called function can modify the value of the argument by using its reference passed in. Does not copy the arguments. The formal parameter is an alias for the argument. References cannot be NULL.
