Transcript: Community Policing Tiffany Ngo Community Policing Community Policing Community policing is when law enforcement partners up with community members and work together towards a safer environment for the citizens in that neighborhood. Anecdotal Evidence Anecdotal Evidence Vincent Esposito is a Community Patrol Officer Program (CPOP) officer assigned to the 72nd precinct in Brooklyn, NY. This is where he had built a relationship with the residents in the neighborhood and gained their trust. They told him confidential information about where drug dealers keep their stash. Using this information, he was able to seize the drugs and put a stop to the dealers. Statistical Evidence Statistical Evidence In New York, the police department started implementing community policing in their structure. Through this system, the felony crime rate dropped 5.3% across the city. In 2014, a case study showed 27 of the 65 comparison analyzed, there was a 5-10% odds of reduced crime. Community policing was found to be 80% effective with 40% of the citizens satisfied with the police work. Statistical Evidence Statistical Evidence Expert Opinion Expert Opinion Norm Stamper is a police officer for 34 years with a PhD in leadership adn human behavior. He thinks community policing works if there is a collaborative between officers and citizens. They work together to build a system where both gets to have an input in what goes on. Conclusion Conclusion From the evidence, community policing is working based on the relationships between law enforcement and citizen. In cities where community policing is part of the structure, there has been a decrease in crime. This is due to the gained trust between them and how they feel safe to confide in the officers about stuff in their neighbirhood. Evaluation Evaluation Police should use community policing because it will build a better relationship between law enforcement and citizens. By building these relationships, officers will have a way to get confidential information on how to keep neighborhoods safe for everyone. This will also make the citizens feel safer and put more trust into officers.

Transcript: The use of this will identify and solve problems quickly and effectively. Everyone becomes part of the elite force that solves crime. All citizens within a community feel like they have a big part in it. The police will have a huge role in the community and not be looked at as the 'bad guys'. Community Policing As members of the Pensacola Police station, I encourage you to implement the set of methods of community police as soon as possible! I would hold a meeting for the whole city and let them know what community policing is and the philosophy of it! Be kind and realize that all members of the community can help you catch that 'bad guy' that you have been trying to search for months now! Use all methods the way they were meant to be implemented and always be kind and helpful! There are many ways that community policing can be implemented throughout neighborhoods. Some of the most effective common ways would be the use of foot patrol, door-to-door contact, store-fronts, setting up events and meetings for the police officer to interact with the community members. Another simple way of starting community policing would be all local officers just greeting everyone within that community and ensure everyone has a positive image of that officer. Why should we be practicing community policing? The Philosophy "Community Policing." (2005): n. pag. U.S Department of Justice. Aug. 1994. Web. 2 Apr. 2016. • Bohm, Robert M., and Keith N. Haley. Together, officers and citizens can stop crime! The Pensacola area has over 52,000 people living here. 150 of them are swore police officers. With the use of police officers and citizens working together, the Pensacola area can become very safe by using community policing procedures. The Pensacola area is a perfect community to start implementing community policing. This area is filled with students from the local university and college as well as retirees. With many people afraid of cops from what they see on T.V its better to start implementing community policing as soon as possible! Slowly, the Pensacola Police department can show all individuals in a community what they have to offer and how safe the community will before with the use of community policing! What is Community Policing? Community policing is a philosophy and a set a methods to bring police officers and all members of a community closer together. With all the negative attention police officers receive in the media, local police stations need to find ways to stop police brutality and to have all citizens in the community trust the police officers. The Pensacola Area As long as officers are nice and trustworthy to all members in the community, the negative image will fade By Cheyenne Perry Conclusion Work cited Set of Methods As members of Pensacola, I encourage you to be friendly to all police officers! As introduce yourself if you get the chance! If you have any questions, comment, or concerns, I encourage you to seek help from the police department and always talk to officers with a open mind! Always let them know if you witness or hear suspicions activity in your neighborhood. Familiarize yourself with all the rules and law within this community! What can we do now... As citizens of Pensacola What can we do now..? As members of the Pensacola Police Department The philosophy of community policing is that members in a community and police officers will come together and form a partnership to understand why crime occurs and stop it. Together they will identify problems, purpose solutions, and implement actions. In order to achieve these goals, both parties must be able to trust each other. The use of foot patrol is very effective in learning information about the community

Transcript: Community Policing By: Hannah Borsay 12/6/2017 MAIN FOCUS AREA Community Policing Thesis Thesis Is my a new form of community policing that allows communities to be divided into sections. Each sections will be elected a certain amount of officers to police them. There will be a police council that will meet with all of the police officers and talk about problems in their section/community. When an officers gets elected to a section that officer has to stay in there section. Each year there will be an election so the officers and the community can find the right fit for their community. There will also still be a main police department with a chief that the police officers have to answer too. Community Policing Short History Community Policing Short History The first community policing programs can be seen in London in 1800s to 1840s The 1960s civil and social turmoils lead to community policing programs in America What is Community Policing? What is Community Policing? Scan - Identify Problem Analyze - Study information about offenders, victim Respond - Outside the box Assess -Evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy FOCUS AREA 1 1 Focus Area Funding Government Funded Donations Fundraisers Community Events Typical Strategies Strategies School officer Foot Patrol Neighborhood crime prevention Mini -Stations Theory "Broken Window Theory" Weidner (2013) stated "Minor disorderly conditions left unchecked will result in neighborhood decline and serious criminal activity"(Ferreira, 1996). Windows left broken, shows lack of care and charge, leading to further broken windows and crime Community members involvement to fix "windows," decreased crime In fact, it is felt that without help of community members, police alone will not be able to prevent crime (Ferreira, 1996) FOCUS AREA 2 FOCUS AREA 2 Advantages Brings communities & police together It can deter crime Educate the community Increases commitment to community Change reputation Create trust Advantages Disadvantages Disadvantages Power Manufactural deviance Different ideas Citizens might not care Relationship might worsen Does Community Policing really work ? Does it Work?? Overall, community-policing strategies have a positive effect on citizen satisfaction and trust in the police, as well as the reduction of individuals’ perception of disorderly conduct, including drug dealing. However, no statistically significant effect was found on reported crime or fear of crime (Maximino). 76 percent of Americans have “a great deal” of respect for police -- up 12 percent from last year Among conservatives – 85 percent respect police “a great deal” compared to 69 percent last year Among liberals, “a great deal” was selected by 71 percent, compared to 50 percent last year Whites who respect police a great deal rose 11 points -- up to 80 percent from 69 percent last year Among non-whites, the rise was more dramatic -- up 14 points from 53 percent to 67 percent The 18-34 age group had the highest jump, going from 50 percent in 2015 to 69 percent in 2016 The 35-54 group went from 61 percent to 77 percent -- a 16 percent increase The 55-and-older crowd rose four percent -- from 77 percent to 81 percent FOCUS AREA 3 FOCUS AREA 3 What have I learned? What have I learned I have learned that community policing is more then just police officers always in the community and them getting along. It takes a lot more effort from both sides but especially from the police department. Because they have to be able to fund community policing and where we are right now as a society. Putting money towards community policing is not the first priority so things that need to be done can't be done. Questions?? Questions?? THANK YOU! Brandl, S. G. (2017). Police in America (3rd Ed.). Our team came to discover a fair amount of the problems arising are being committed by a younger crowd mainly between the ages or 15-28 years of age. We were able to discover this as this is the majority age of the citizens that not only use the transit terminal but also attend the surrounding areas. Many students and young people use public transportation system to visit the mall and due to that fact the transit terminal becomes a hotspot for incidents involving youth. The above problem has become a very large nuisance to other who use the transit terminal and also those in the surrounding areas such as businesses, residents of the area, and Bramalea City Centre. We will certainly know our goals have been achieved
