Trans women of color are most often targeted by this violence. Born with external genitalia, internal reproductive organs, and/or endocrine systems that are different from most other people. There is no single "intersex body"; the term encompasses a wide variety of conditions that do not have anything in common except that they are deemed "abnormal" by the medical community. Not an identity category; while some intersex people do reclaim "intersex" as part of their identity, most regard it as a medical condition or just a unique physical state. It is estimated that about one in 2,000 children, or five children per day in the United States, are born visibly intersex, which prompts early (and often misguided) intervention. The "A" in LGBTQIA Betty DeGeneres — Ellen's mom — made this comparison in her book Just a Mom: "Let me suggest that we all know someone who is left-handed. Lefties make up roughly the same percentage [of the population] as gay people. And yet millions of Americans say they don't know someone who is gay. Unless those people who claim ignorance are living in a place called Fantasyland, they are most likely mistaken." >> LGBTQIA Terminology Prejudice plus power and can take many forms including racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, ageism and others Depression, low self-esteem, isolation 1.
