Transcript: What life was like in the 1950's for Black Americans Life was horrible in the 1950's Black people should not be treated how they were they had to sit at the back of a bus and if there were no seats left black people had to give white people their seat on the bus. If you were black it was very hard to find a job as most people would hire white people instead of black .They used to split white and black children apart in schools you would find that if you went to a white children's school they have alot more books than black children had. some of Martin Luther King's speech Rosa Parks Rosa Parks stoodup for what she belived in or rather sat down aswell as being arrested for civil disobedence she was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person. I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation. Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. (Martin Luther King, 1964) “But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: in the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Transcript: Martin Luther King This is Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King was born on the 15th January 1929. He fought tirelessly for Black rights throughout the the 50`s and 60`s. Early work. One of his famous early works was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. In March 1955, a fifteen-year-old school girl, Claudette Colvin, refused to give up her bus seat to a white man this was against the Jim crow laws and she was severley punished.Colvin was also pregnant and unmarried. Also On December the 1st 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat. This lead to... The Montgomery Bus Boycott, planned and led by King, lasted for 385 days. The situation became so tense that King's house was bombed. King was arrested during this campaign, however the government decided that all segregation was to be abolished on all Montgomery buses. I have a dream. Martin Luther King`s 1963 speech "I have a dream" is probably the most famous speech of all time and it introduced the majority of the world to the severety of the problem of racial discrimination in America. Views on the Vietnam war. Starting in 1965, he doubted the role of the United states in the Vietnam war, one year before King died ( 4th april 1967) he gave a speech called "Beyond Vietnam".He strongly spoke against the U.S. role in the war in Vietnam . King also didnt like the Vietnam war as it used a lot of money that could have been used to help the less fortunate. The Assassination On the 4th of April 1968 while King was in Memphis, Tenesse in the Lorraine Motel he was shot.he was standing on the second floor balcony, when a bullet when through his cheek, smashing his jaw. then going through his spinal cord and finally getting stuck in his shoulder. An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr King participated and led many civil rights movements, including: the Montgomery bus boycott, and the march on Washington.
