Common uses References Types of mangoes Smoothies, salads, salsa, desserts, and jellies are major uses of the mango. The origin of the mango The mango exists in two forms. One is from India, and the other is from the Philippines and Asia. The mango from India has more orange and red colors in it, and the mango from the Philippines has a more yellow and orange color. Once mangoes are picked, the damaged or rotten ones are sorted out. They are then graded on color, size, weight, degree of sweetness and firmness. Mango Color isn't the best indicator of ripeness. Softness is the true way to judge ripeness, but the stem should also have a fruity aroma. Vendor Web site Mango salsa (my favorite) Ingredients: 1/4 large onion 2-3 Serrano chilies Juice of 1-2 limes 1 tsp sugar 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro 1 avocado chunked 1-2 cups chopped mango 5 Roma tomatoes diced 1 tsp corn oil 1/8 tsp salt 1-2 cloves crushed garlic (optional) Finely chop all ingredients (but mango), next squeezing lime juice over top. Other studies are underway as mangoes have shown to impact glucose levels, weight loss, body composition and inflammation. Storing Gordon Food Service Mangot, Manga, or Mangou. They were found most in Burma and Eastern India, then spreading to Malaya, Eastern Asia, and Eastern Africa. Mangoes introduced to California in 1880. Nutritional Value http://www.slideshare.net/manishamishra777/cleaning-sorting-and-grading-of-mango-1 What to expect: Mangoes are harvested when mature, but not ripe. It's very typical to find mangoes of different ripening maturity in the same box. Ideally, you would want the same size mangoes so they ripen together more easily. Unripe mangoes should be stored at room temperature. Faster ripening can be done if stored in a brown paper bag. Mangoes should not be stored in the refrigerator until they are ripe and ready for use, which slows down the ripening process. They may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days once ripe, and in the freezer for up to 6 months once peeled and sliced. https://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/mango.html

How to grow a mango tree An easy way to grow a mango tree, is to start by simply buying a mango, taking it home, washing it, and carefully prying the husk open. Once the husk is cracked open, remove the lima bean shapped seed. Fill a six inch pot with potting soil, or just plant the seed in a decsent farming area. Before planting the seed, make sure the soil is moist. Plant the seed in the soil with the curved edges up, and the rounded hump just above the surface, covering the seed, leaving the very tip of the hump visible. Keeping the soil moist, but soggy, place the seed in a sunny location, with temperatures around 80. Vegetative - In the 2nd and 5th years, the plant produces its general form and scaffold. 3. Reproductive - At about ten years of age, mango trees are able to flower and fruit each year. ( It takes 100-150 days from flower to fruit). From age 1-20, a tree may produce 200 to 300 fruits per year.
