Mother-Baby

Transcript: Newly delivered mother in recovery from either vaginal or cesarean birth and their baby. A RN is in charge of vital assessments of both mom and baby, pain med distribution, and encouraging bonding between mother and baby. Health Care Team During my time on this unit I shadowed some very experienced nurses which really helped my experience. It was exactly what I thought it would be. I was able to witness caring for mothers with post-partum and mothers that were extremely involved and over joyed. Patients were surrounded by family and others required a lot more assistance from the nurses because they were there by themselves. I could definitely see myself as a mother baby nurse. It's a goal that i would like to work towards. On this unit you will find... Obstetrician - certified in maternal/fetal medicine and provides medical supervision for the medical care of patients Pediatrician - certified in neonatal medicine and provides medical direction for newborn nursery Lactation Consultant - educates/supports women about breast feeding and human lactation Among these you will also find... RN, LPN, PCT, SA, and various counselors to help mothers showing signs of post-partum depression. As a nurse you will care for patients of all cultures and elasticities. With these it is important to respect their customs especially when it comes to motherhood. Communication is very important, language barriers are always a difficult obstacle, with help from translators information can be communicated easily. With the amount of health care professionals on this unit, many job descriptions over lap. It is important to communicate with your co-workers and with the patient to keep them up to date. Typical Patient Common Tests Many tests are performed on a newborn with its first 48 hours of life such as... Newborn Metabolic Screening - blood test that screens for 50 metabolic diseases, genetic disorders, and anemia (done once 24 hours old and has had at least 1 feeding) Bilirubin Test - performed on all babies within 36-40 hours, light is placed on forehead of baby ( premature babies are monitored more often) Baby Hearing Screening - happens day after birth, soft ear pieces are placed over baby's ears, sensors measure brain's response to sound. Many babies fail the first time. For a new parent, the amount of equipment used can be a bit overwhelming... here's some of the basics Bili-lights - bright blue fluorescent lights placed over a baby's incubator used to treat jaundice Breast pumps - used to stimulate breast milk production while baby is recovering and unable to feed Diaper scale - to measure baby's intake and output while baby's are in special nursery This unit specializes in the care of newly delivered mothers and their stable babies. The health care team of this unit works together to support and educate new parents on basic skills and next steps. Everyday Equipment Mother-Baby

(2) As far as practicable, the person in charge must establish programs designed to assist inmates to (a) improve their education or training, and (b) reduce the risk they present to the community. - The Mother Baby Program was established originally, by Ms. Tole in accordance with her statutory duty and authority (under s. 38 of the Regulation.), but the The Mother Baby Program was terminated by Ms. Anderson at the direction of the Provincial Director, Mr. Merchant, in accordance to the same statutory authority. - Chief Justice McLachlin confirmed that an exercise of discretion taken in accordance to a statute must conform with the Charter. (66) Statement of Philosophy 1. The significance of gender should be acknowledged in the design and operation of all facilities, services and programs. 2. The experiences and needs of men and women offenders are different. One important difference is that most women offenders have experienced victimization or exploitation, most often by men, and they continue to be vulnerable. 3. Facilities, programs and services must recognize these distinctive factors and provide an environment that is respectful, safe and constructive for both women offenders and the staff who work with them. Because privacy and dignity are fundamental for women in the custodial environment, living units are staffed by women officers only. 4. To most effectively address criminogenic needs in custody and community settings, techniques and materials which are demonstrated to support women’ s learning and behaviour change should be incorporated in supervision, case management and programming. 5. All staff providing direct service to women offenders should understand the significance of gender in their work, including the experience and perception of authority by women, and the dynamics of cross-gender supervision and

Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.
