Global Warming
Transcript: Global Warming Throughout its long history, Earth has warmed and cooled time and again. Climate has changed when the planet received more or less sunlight due to subtle shifts in its orbit, as the atmosphere or surface changed, or when the Sun’s energy varied. But in the past century, another force has started to influence Earth’s climate: humanity. Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels. Earth has experienced climate change in the past without help from humanity. But the current climatic warming is occurring much more rapidly than past warming events. How Much More Will Earth Warm? Models predict that as the world consumes ever more fossil fuel, greenhouse gas concentrations will continue to rise, and Earth’s average surface temperature will rise with them. Based on plausible emission scenarios, average surface temperatures could rise between 2°C and 6°C by the end of the 21st century. Some of this warming will occur even if future greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, because the Earth system has not yet fully adjusted to environmental changes we have already made. AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING!!! FOR GLOBAL WARMING… In the arctic the ice is melting because of global warming which will cause polar bears to become extinct. Once the ice has melted it will become water and the sea will overflow which will then cause the fish in the seas to become extinct and our land will flood which will mean that us humans will die. The sun is getting hotter. It is also incredibly old -- about 4,500 million years old! One day it will blow up but that won't be for another 4000 million years or so. But the Earth's climate seems to be heating up much, much faster than can be explained by the sun making more heat. And the reason seems to be you people and your machines. Almost all machines use oil, gas or coal. All of them produce pollution -- you know, the smelly stuff that comes out of car exhaust pipes and factory chimneys, that sort of thing. Much of this is a gas you can't see called carbon dioxide. It's this gas which seems to be the main cause of the trouble. FOR GLOBAL WARMING… Scientific evidence shows a direct between the levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere (which have increased primarily from humans’ use of fossil fuels) and the increasing temperatures our planet is experiencing. Global warming doesn’t mean the end of winter and a permanent tropical climate. On the contrary, the more correct term is “climate change” which means more frequent and intense storms, droughts, wars breaking out over water, and mass migrations on a biblical scale as the waters slowly drown out coastal areas.
