The Distributor (DIE) Cover Sheet

Transcript: The Distributor (DIE) Cover Sheet The Cover Sheet The Cover Sheet Up to this point: we have been introduced to the team; trained on team work/team mentality; and looked at Wyoming Fuel Tax Law, distribution and licensing. Now it's time to begin looking at Monthly Fuel Tax Returns. There are two main types of fuel tax returns, Suppliers and Distributors. The first type of Return we will examine is the Distributor Return. Often called a DIE or Distributor, Importer, Exporter Return. More specifically, we will be looking at the Cover Sheet of a DIE return. Cont... The Cover Sheet of a DIE return is a summary of all the transactions that occurred in a specific month for the DIE reporting. The Cover Sheet shows both purchases (Receipts) and sales (Disbursements) of fuel of all types. It also shows any taxes due to the state or refunds due to the DIE. A DIE cover sheet consists of 2 pages. The first page details a summary of all fuel purchased and sold for an entire month. The second page details any taxes or refunds due. It also shows the total amount of tax liability owed to the state or refund owed to the DIE. Header Breakdown Breakdown of the header of the first cover sheet The first thing to look for on the Cover Sheet is the name and address of the company reporting. Name & Address Unlike Bills of Lading, most information on a cover sheet is housed in the same areas with the same format. There are a few exceptions, but generally speaking, this will be the case. The right shows a cover sheet and the name and address of the company highlighted where it will be reported. The next thing to look for is the Wyoming Fuel Tax License Number. License Number It's housed just below the name and address and is an alphanumeric 14 character code assigned to each taxpayer. The next piece of important information on the cover sheet is the report period. Report Period Tax returns are submitted for all transactions that occur in a calendar month. Therefore, the report period will be a month and year. It's implied that this includes all transactions for the month reported. Where the report period is located is highlighted below. When a tax return is delivered to your desk, it will have a received date stamped on the first page of the cover sheet. Received Date Highlighted is where to find the Received Date and the format it will be in. This date is important because returns are considered late when they are not postmarked on or before the last day of the month in the month following the report period. Late Returns When a return is late, the DIE is charged penalty and interest. The return will be marked with a "Late" stamp. Penalty is 10% of the total taxes due. For example, a June 2011 return must be postmarked (mailed) by the last day of the month in July 2011 and the July return is due (must be mailed) by the last day of August 2011, etc. Interest is 1% of the total taxes due per month that the return is past due. For example, if a June return is submitted with an August date stamp, a 10% penalty would be assessed as well as 1% interest for the 1 month that the return is late. This return is considered late because it should have been postmarked (mailed) by the last day in July. When a return is received late, the posting desk will also include the original postage cancellation mark on the back of the first page of the return. It will also include the shipping label to prove that it came from that company. Posting Many times, the first page of the cover sheet will have a "Date to Accounting" stamp. This indicates the day the check received will actually go to the bank. Date to Accounting This is important because we cannot release funds for distribution until the check has actually reached the bank. We will discuss this in further detail in the future. For Office Use Only For Office Use Only The Cover Sheet of the return will have a "For Office Use Only" box in the tip right corner. This area is for Fuel Tax use only. A larger insert of this box is on the right, the left photo is where it's at on the front page. This box contains several pieces of information. Meanings Check/ACH Information PMF or Posted Date Audit Date Cover Date Verify Date Avi or Aviation Data Entered Date Schedule or EDI Data Entered Date File Date CC or Cross- Checked When each piece of the return is completed, the person who completed it, will sign-off on it. PMF The sign-off will be in a MM/DD/YYYY format, with the person's initials following. (Written by hand) This shows us that this was completed by September 1, 2014 by an individual with the initials EZ. *This will usually be handwritten NOT typed out like shown. The check/ACH information will be included next to the "Check #" line if there is a tax liability for the company. This would only apply to a Money Return. Music Magazine Cover Planning Sheet

Transcript: As the music magazine will be based on the rap/hip-hop genre there are many codes and conventions which will be shown in these magazines as opposed to other genres of music. Upon evaluation of other music magazine covers, I have found a lot of codes and conventions both used in all music magazine covers and those just in particular genres. For example, I found that the feature image of the music magazine generally shows an image of someone who has a disregard for society and shows intimidation. I had also found that the images show how wealthy the artist is by the use of props i.e. jewellery. I will not be challenging any codes and conventions used in music magazines. Techniques such as including feature articles in the left third will be used so that they are clearly visible when placed on the shelves in stores. Other codes and conventions such as puff, pug and bottom strip will be used to promote and sell the magazine more. Choosing a feature image wasn't too difficult once I had found out what my music magazine's content would comprise of. I wanted to use an image which shows both determination and wickedness to support the idea of the artist becoming a rapper. This idea stemmed from the images I found during my research and so I decided to portray a mysterious character. The image shows the character with a subtle grin portraying a look as though he is successful. I had chosen to for the costume to consist of a smart but flash shirt. This shows that the artist was once someone else but the subtle grin contradicts the person he was before. What are your house colours and why? For my masthead I decided to give it the name 'Nex Mix'. This idea came to me when I decided to base my music magazine on the rap/hip-hop genre. It suggests that the music magazine supports a collection of genres and is above all other music magazines. I decided to go with a black and large font which contrasts nicely with the red background. This immediately draws the readers to the music magazine. I also included a shadow to give it a more professional look. What Codes & Conventions are you following? Feature Image Music Magazine Cover Planning Sheet I will be using the following house colours on my music magazine cover: Black Grey Red All of the above colours follow a similar sort of connotation. They have been used because my music magazine cover is based on music of the rap/hip-hop genre. The colour black will be used to show a sense of wickedness as the colour grey shows a mysterious mood. The colour red was used to break the colours in a sense of anger. I had used the colour red to show Soho's determination to continue with his music career and only get bigger as an artist. Masthead
